Service: what will it cost?
Toshiba provides a limited warranty with their computers, servers and projectors. Under Toshiba's warranty, service is provided to you at no cost for covered parts and labor. When you bring your Toshiba products to Automagic, we first check for Toshiba warranty coverage. We automatically limit ourselves to what can be done under Toshiba's warranty, and we'll ask for your permission if work needs to be done for which there may be an additional charge.

What is covered by Toshiba's warranty?
Toshiba's warranty protects you against defects in materials and workmanship, and assures you their prodcuts conform to the factory specifications in effect at the time the product was manufactured. In practice, Toshiba's warranty allows for exchange of a malfunctioning part when function has been compromised (for example, a failed hard drive), but does not provide for replacement of a part for cosmetic or aesthetic reasons (for example, scratches to the case). Some portions of a product have their own warranty and are considered consumable supplies (as examples, a battery and a projector's lamp). Damage is never covered by Toshiba's limited warranty (see more on damage below), and Toshiba does not provide replacements for pieces that go missing.

What isn't covered by Toshiba's warranty?
Some exclusions were described in the prior question. Toshiba's warranty does not concern itself with software, the operating system, or data. Toshiba assumes you will back up anything important to you on your own. Automagic offers backup services to help you keep your information safe. Toshiba's warranty also does not include transportation to or from a service center. If you'd like to have Automagic ship your Toshiba product to you, have a look at this information on shipping to get an overview.

How is a Toshiba extended or 3-year warranty different after the first year?
Accessories such as a battery or AC adapter are considered consumable items and their warranty does not extend past the initial period of use. Though they do provide function, their functional life may have been used up. If you need to purchase an accessory, Automagic is here to help.

Is damage ever covered under Toshiba's warranty?
Damage is never covered under Toshiba's limited warranty. However, Toshiba does make enhancements to their warranty. One such enhancement is SystemGuard and it does cover some effects of accidental damage. Crack a display? Spill coffee into your computer? SystemGuard coverage allows such mishaps to be treated as warranty concerns. Automagic fully supports and enforces the provisions of SystemGuard when we provide service. We also sell the many Toshiba warranty enhancements, including SystemGuard. Let us help you strengthen your Toshiba product's warranty so you may enjoy it for a long time without worrying about what it will cost to keep it going.

I modified my product. How does this affect the warranty?
Your product is made up of a number of replaceable pieces. Any piece that you modified is no longer eligible for replacement under Toshiba's warranty. Optional SystemGuard coverage provides no relief either. If the modified piece, or your efforts to modify it, lead to damage elsewhere in your product, that damage is not covered either. Toshiba takes the approach that if you've modified it, it's now only an ingredient in your new creation. You are now the provider of warranty coverage.

I attached things to my product (stickers, epoxy-connected security device, flagpole, whatever!) Does this affect my warranty?
Your product is made up of a number of replaceable pieces, and is designed to be disassembled and reassembled. If an item that you attached gets in the way of disassembly, and it can't be conveniently removed, it may have to be destroyed so disassembly may proceed. Toshiba's warranty does not cover the effort to destroy your attachment, nor does it cover replacement, reinstallation or restitution. Do yourself a favor. Remove any attachment before bringing in your computer, and don't attach in such a way that it interferes with normal assembly, disassembly or function. Your attached items may become damaged, incomplete, or even entirely lost and you agree to and accept such outcomes by having your product brought in such a condition. You may have to pay additionally for service in the presence of these attachments.
